Music Video Breakdowns: Master P - 'Make 'Em Say Uhh!' (1998)

Presenting the first in what we hope will be be an endless series of Music Video Breakdowns. Up first: Master P's iconic "Make 'Em Say Uhh!"

Believe it or not, there was once an era in hip-hop during which rappers wore but one chain around their necks. Modest times like these deserve occasional revisiting, if only to learn important lessons in earnestness and frugality.

Within 15 seconds of Master P's iconic "Make 'Em Say Uhh!" video, a gold tank rolls across a gold mirror basketball court to the surprise of nearly everyone in attendance. Certainly these sports fans expected a good show, but a gold tank? P had really outdone himself this time!

Things quickly get down to business though, as players from each No Limit team warm up before the big game against Percy Miller.

That's right, literally everyone with a jersey will spend most of the video guarding Master P. Luckily for us viewers, P's talent is unparalleled. Also: no one in the building bothered to raise the baskets to a proper height.

The kind of defense played by our friend on the left here would normally earn him a spot on the bench at the next dead ball, but I'm pretty sure Master P (center, about to score on everybody) is also the coach of his team.

But the contest is not without tension. At 1:09, someone other than Master P scores a bucket, which causes P to go on a tear so efficient that it takes longer to type than it does to complete.

Between 1:26 and 1:51, the No Limit kingpin shoves a ball handler into the stands, dunks on the gold tank, steals the ball from another player, blocks a shot so confidently that he doesn't even bother to look at the ball, dunks again, then bounces it to himself for an alley-oop dunk.

P's sequence is unprecedented in the history of basketball, and even causes all-time great Shaquille O'Neal to jump out of his seat.

The scene continues during verses from Silkk the Shocker and Mia X, but all hell breaks loose when an exploding projectile fires from the tank and destroys one of the backboards. Many believe P's probable quintuple-double caused the accidental discharge.

But an active war machine isn't enough to deter Mystikal, who  raps in a way that clearly indicates he has no regard for himself or anyone else. Just look at him sitting on the rim, nearly seven feet in the air!

Did you know? "No Limit" is in every single frame of this video. (Probably.)

As fans returned to their seats after a giant gold-plated tank ejected two missiles in the small gymnasium, Master P decides it's probably time to wrap this thing up before someone gets hurt.

In the end, all in attendance had an awesome afternoon and P donated the shiny gold court to a local Boys & Girls Club. Everyone came out a winner here. |ES|
